Spot on Jack. Today it’s Facebook on desktop/laptops, tomorrow it’s MySpace on tablets (Kindle fire?!) Big shift coming and MySpace just shifted.
Cliff: the Windows 8 style on Myspace, too, I am sure is no coincidence.
While the pundits are saying that Myspace is great because it focuses on music, they are missing the other angle.
Well, the music business at large is not solely about music, because so many cross over into other media to keep themselves in business. And having worked for an independent music blog, I was very aware that artists still were promoting themselves on Myspace. There was a brief moment where they tried to carry that over to Facebook, but I did not see any evidence that it took.
So a well-known pop star invested in Myspace and pushed a new look? I’m not surprised at all. Again– where Justin Timberlake was working with the SNL boys that call themselves “The Lonely Island” recently– sure, he’s got a vested reason to make a social network more than just a “hey, listen to my band” promotional site.
Timberlake is a lot more shrewd than folks give him credit for.
