An alternative to Instagram maps

Instagram, on announcing their cancellation, said that not many people used its maps, which is a shame—looks like I was one of the few who did. For those seeking an alternative, the Data Pack has a map that you can use here. It’s not bad, though being on another site, it’s less handy to get to. Here’s mine, and for those who are wondering why the US and Canada aren’t that populated with photos, they’re simply countries I haven’t gone to regularly since I joined Instagram in November 2012.

  1. Thanks so much for this post! You’re a life saver. Photo maps was my favorite Instagram feature. I was going to quit Instagram after they pulled photo maps but now you’ve given me a reason to stay! Thanks for sharing :)

  2. You’re most welcome, Andrei. The map takes a little while to load, but once it does, you can zoom in and out as you could with the Instagram one. Like you, this was a favourite feature, and I find all its new features—e.g. Stories—largely useless.

  3. Hey Jack, thanks for sharing this. I finally used https://destipod.com to plot all my Instagram photos on a map. I hate Instagram for killing photo maps. I only used it for my travels -.- :D

  4. Thanks, Matty. I tried using Destipod just now and all it would do is say it was importing my data (‘We collect your posts. This may take a while to complete!’) but my map remained blank with no destinations added at the end of the “import”. I’m glad it worked for you; sadly it doesn’t for me.

  5. Hey Jack, it took me some time, too. I used the app for iOS. For nearly 1000 pictures it took about 20 minutes to complete.
