We know Meta’s not on the side of justice or democracy, as it shows over and over again, and OnlyKlans’ fascist leanings are obvious. Google pretends that it’s all about the algorithms when we know it’s not: for years it would censor anything critical of itself when I posted to my old Google Plus account.
Unsurprisingly, journalist Ken Klippenstein has found that the J. D. Vance research dossier that he published has been banned from OnlyKlans, Meta and Google—on the last one, Google Drive won’t allow the dossier to be shared.
No one has called the dossier fake or altered.
But it’s not just significant things like this that get censored.
Criticism of a crooked SEO outfit, who made false claims about my working with them, is also gone from a Google search for their name, unless you request a search showing the (allegedly similar) hidden results, which no one ever does.
Google would rather side with a crooked operation than let fair, reasoned criticism air.
And no, I don’t think a two-bit SEO outfit has much weight or importance, even if its lies seem extravagant. They’re on my radar because right now they’re useful in helping expose the workings of Google, and, of course, the sheer gullibility of that profession when it came to Semrush. It’s always been about the big firms and their effects on the rest of us.
Mine is minor. Ken’s is major. His country’s democracy is under attack. In both cases, Google would rather censor and protect the unethical.
It’s nothing new, and a reminder of why Google has not been my first choice for search for 14 years. The fact it remains the number-one choice for the majority of the occident means I have to keep posting things like this to remind people.
Use it if you choose, just know that it is compromised, and it will always be compromised.
