A nice way to conclude 2024: my name in a real article by a real journalist with quotations attributed to me that are actually by me. I’m so grateful to Tejashee Kashyap and Luxury Facts for interviewing me and my friend Dr Cristián Saracco, and to our friend Philippe Mihailovich for connecting Tejashee and me for her story on the Jaguar rebrand. My favourite quotation that I gave to Tejashee:
The British often claim to be a conservative people, yet their actions suggest a deeply radical streak. Consider the Triumph TR7, Leyland 18-22, and Aston Martin Lagonda of the mid-1970s—bold explorations of wedge design that were nothing if not daring. Thatcherism, too, was radical—whether one agrees with it or not. This willingness to embrace the unconventional, even amid limited information, is a defining but rarely acknowledged aspect of the British character.
What do you reckon? This was actually inspired by kōrero my friend Philip and I had during the summer in London. He’s been based there for over 20 years and radicalness was one thing he observed of the British (he’s half-English on his father’s side, though like many white Kiwis, I’m sure there’s Anglo-Saxon on his mother’s, too). His example was Brexit.
