Having seen the number of results for Autocade drop on Mojeek—something which they said was unlikely—I thought it was about time I ran another series of site: tests, using our random cross-section.
And I have to report that for some sites, the drop is real. I can’t speak for whether the others have actually removed pages, but I know we haven’t. Yet a plunge from 3,103 to 852 is very substantial. Tonight, that number is 865.
You can see for yourself how the occidental search engines fare. I suspect Stefan Engeseth’s Detective Marketing website results are down as he is using his own name more, and his is the only one that shows a substantial drop percentage-wise. However, other sites do show noticeable drops, something we haven’t witnessed prior. (I’ve taken results from 2022, 2023, 2024, choosing the test that was nearest the mid-year point; the January 2025 column is there for an extra comparison.)
Google is all over the place, showing a big drop for Detective Marketing. It has Lucire on 39,600 (up from 4,150), but I don’t think we have myriads of pages on the site. The Google figures, then, need to be taken with a grain of salt. Other sites show remarkable increases, too, namely the two newspapers’, while Microsoft goes from a claimed 149 million results to over a milliard.
In 2022, it would have been hard to believe, but Bing has turned out to be the most improved, with numbers roughly around where you’d expect them to be.
