Running site: searches for four of our sites across four engines

Google is hiding the number of results for any given search.

Google hid this under ‘Tools’ some time ago but now that link no longer works universally. I was able to access it using a vulnerable browser that let everything through, and for this blog, at least, the count is surprisingly poor.

Google is so filled with “AI” slop these days that it probably doesn’t want you to access the count very easily.

Yandex has also given up showing the count, with no exceptions.

Here are how the claimed counts look for some of our sites. Oddly, Mojeek still remains markedly down for Autocade; it used to deliver over 3,000 results.

Bing, after its disastrous 2022, now seems to do a reasonably broad and deep search. Based on this sampling, it’s doing very well, benefiting all its other shells such as Duck Duck Go, Yahoo, Qwant and others. Of course, you don’t know when the index will next collapse, but right now it’s outperforming Google on some of these site: searches. (While flattering, Lucire doesn’t have 29,800 articles online as Google claims, and this site does not have 4,470 entries as Bing claims, unless it’s coughing up a ton of tag and category pages from this blog.)
