Über gives up rides, website now specializes in puzzles

Every once in a while I try this Über thing everyone’s talking about. I’ve never been able to get the “app” to work but you can theoretically use the website.

Except I believe Über is no longer doing rides and is now principally a puzzle website.

Trying to get one for my partner from a computer resulted in this:

Uber screen with a warning box, 'Protecting your account'

You start doing the Über puzzles to prove to the bot that you are human.

A mathematical puzzle on Uber

You do three of these puzzles at a time, and then Über goes:

Request failed

and you get three more puzzles.

After 12 of these I got a bit bored so I wanted to see if there was a way of asking for help.

Somehow I got to the ‘I can’t sign in to my account’ page but the only two problems that I am allowed to have are:

• I forgot my password
• I need to update my communication preferences

I haven’t forgotten my password but clicking on the second link sends you to an unsubscribe page. There is no updating that you can do.

Ah, but there’s ‘Contact support’ at the bottom!

The option is ‘Send a message’ since the chat is only available to logged-in users, and since they won’t let me log in, that’s not me.

‘Send a message’ gives you this:

There was a problem loading this content

and it reloads the page you were on.

They were founded in 2009 so they have only had 16 years to develop an “app” and have a workable website, so I know I am asking too much of an American Big Tech company. Naturally, no one tests things there. I’d be rioting in California, too, with software this bad.
