Abdelkader Boudih, a.k.a. Seuros, shows how dodgy Amazon is.
In July, his Amazon Web Services account was terminated and 10 years of his data were gone. ‘No warning. No grace period. No recovery options. Just complete digital annihilation.’
What Amazon then did over 20 days was gaslight him, with humans acting like chatbots. We’ve seen this script before.
An insider then reaches out, knowing some of the details about his account that only he did. That person claimed that Amazon ran a script that killed Seuros’s data. Seuros theorized that the reps then gaslit him so they didn’t have to admit to having caused it themselves.
He finishes his post saying he’s building a tool to help people get off AWS. Given that it took me two years to find the right expertise to do this, that tool could come in incredibly handy.
However, Seuros was lucky. Not only did his story get the attention of some tech press, a caring human inside AWS saw his plight and gave a damn.
This is the equivalent of Josh Forde putting me on to Rick Klau in 2010 when I was helping my friend Vincent restore his Blogger blog. Rick cared, and that made all the difference when Google staff and a Google support cultist gaslit Vincent and me and pretended not to see the proof that I kept sending them.
As I have said many times earlier, the only way to get Big Tech to act is to embarrass it publicly.
Someone called Tarus inside AWS escalated it to VP level, and even the CEO got to see it.
It did show that nine AWS staff gaslit Seuros, and his instance hadn’t actually been terminated. The up shot is that his data have been restored.
But this is a rare case: as we know, most of our problems never get escalated. Amazon just closes the thread when they get tired of replying and none of their copying, pasting and gaslighting works any more.
Once I had an Amazon staffer send me a form because he had convinced himself that my affiliate account email got transferred to another one on our company domain (it hadn’t). The only thing to do was to request a transfer from my regular email address to my regular email address. Being so absurd, I never completed it. And, of course, Amazon refuses to reopen that thread, too. They took my commissions, and they are operating just as hoods would. (If anyone can get that account open again, donate the lot to MacKenzie Scott so she can disburse it to charity.)
This is a laughable joke of an operation, and we know that Amazon Seller Central is a swindle. Not everyone is as fortunate as Seuros, so why risk using anything from Amazon?
