It’s hard not to get sentimental over these. These were the stickers on my cot, which I slept in in Hong Kong. For whatever reason, my parents decided to ship it over to New Zealand even though I had outgrown it. That reason would have likely been that in 1977, the potential of my having a sibling was still on the cards, and they were the generation that didn’t waste (a habit, I might add, I inherited).
But after over half a century, it is time for the cot to visit the metal recyclers and be turned into something else, and the stickers will go with it today.
I believe the modern cars (the Maserati Bora, Toyota Crown police car and Toyota Hiace ambulance), the Formula 1 racers and the petrol tanker will have been from Tomica, while the vintage cars were from a separate set. I looked at these every night for years, and I still have the scale model of the police car, though heavily playworn with missing pillars, and the ambulance, also playworn but with the pillars intact.
I’m posting for the fellow car nuts and diecast collectors among us.
