Semrush, according to a customer: ‘Their data made no sense’

From a user on Reddit, _cth_. Need I say more? Semrush doesn’t care about how bad their product is, or the effect it has on the public.

Semrush is garbage. / Once in 2016 I worked for an enterprise client and we used SEMrush for quite complex SEO data analysis. And we paid A LOT to semrush. Something around $14k/mo. So it was kinda presumed semrush provided great expensive service. Their data made no sense. It showed certain keywords ranking that should have stopped trending years ago and it missed a lot of newer keywords. The client was one of the largest electronics stores, so model/series keywords were extremely important. / We reached out to Semrush asking them how fresh their data was for the US and Canada. They answered it was year old for US and four years old for Canada. Funny, eh? / Also talked to a dev who used to work as a senior software developer/team lead at Semrush. The dude told me Semrush didn't hire top SEOs or analysts. Whom they really rewarded were designers and sales. So while using Semrush, what you get is a pile of garbage data presented in a truly stunning way. / And why bother and update the data when the low effort product sells pretty good? Heh. Don't use it if you're serious about SEO. Find a different service that charges for periodic keyword ranking checks and conduct your own competitive analysis, preferably using a professional tool like Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc. Well, or at least Excel if you're not that good at analysis.

Here’s someone paying US$14,000 per month for junk, so imagine how bad the data must be for the free or lower-paying users. I would be surprised if this doesn’t wind up in something far messier, when more get caught up in the disinformation trap that Semrush appears to have spurred.
