After saying that I wouldn’t blog about these, along comes one that is too priceless to ignore.
XScreenSaver has been on the Google Play store but was facing deletion unless it included a privacy policy. Since it collected no data, its creators didn’t feel it was necessary, but as Google insisted, they wrote a cracker.
Just a few highlights, links in original:
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never sponsor a conference promoting climate change denial and donate to climate-change deniers.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never use your money to fund and promote misinformation sites.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never report you to the police for trying to get medical care.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never report you to the police for riding a bicycle.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never profit from directing you to misinformation sites about abortion.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never exfiltrate and monetize your private health records.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never collect the user data of children without their parents’ consent.
- Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never use everything you’ve ever posted for “AI” training, regardless of your copyright.
Streisand effect much?
Some of these I’ve covered, but this is a far more exhaustive list.
And there are people out there who still love Google and think they’re the good guys.
