The Tofaş Doğan, the 1,000th model entered into Autocade in 2009.

A very quick look at how long it took us to get each 1,000 models on Autocade.

0: March 8, 2008
1,000: December 21, 2009 (1 year, 9 months for first 1,000—Tofaş Doğan was the 1,000th)
2,000: December 30, 2012 (3 years for second 1,000—Opel Kadett D was the 2,000th)
3,000: December 31, 2014 (2 years for third 1,000—Renault Espace V was the 3,000th)
4,000: January 8, 2020 (5 years, 1 month for fourth 1,000—2019 Buick Enclave was the 4,000th)
5,000: April 9, 2024 (4 years, 3 months for fifth 1,000—Xiaomi SU7 was the 5,000th)

When I started Autocade, the first 1,000 were pretty easy to do, since most car anoraks will have 1,000 models for which they know the specs by heart. They are arguably so common that there aren’t many market variations, either. I’m not surprised that subsequent 1,000-model milestones took longer, because the ones you really wanted up have been done. SUVs are really uninteresting for the most part, and they were one of the biggest segments of the 2010s and 2020s.

I used to take the last week of the year off to tidy things up and if Autocade was, say, a couple of dozen models short, that would be where my hobby time went, hence three of those milestones taking place in December.

The gap between 3,000 and 4,000 was the longest, with Lucire also taking up more time in our company.

I know we can do more luxury models and sports, so we might begin filling in some more gaps there. It’s been a great way to indulge my inner anorak—and if you’d like to show your support, please check out the Autocade Yearbook!
